Pirates @ Cubs Game Two Preview.

Well for starters I can’t say Im surprised by the cubs losing yesterday, they had never seen that pitcher before so the bucco’s had the advantage on the mound the way i see it.Could it be the cubs were just “worn” out from the big series romp over the crew?Who knows but i just had that feeling yesterday we were gonna be a bit weak, turns out the cubs were downright anemic with the offense,so lets hope we get back on track today, looking ahead to todays game.

Ted Lilly

  • #30 LHP
  • (10-6) 4.49 ERA 124 SO

Cubs:Lilly did not get a decision in his last start against the Brewers. The lefty gave up three runs on seven hits, including back to back homers by J.J. Hardy and Ryan Braun, over six innings. Lilly was mad at himself for the mistakes. He finished July 1-1 in five starts. He has faced Pittsburgh twice this year, and did not get a decision in either game.

Paul Maholm

  • #28 LHP
  • (7-6) 3.79 ERA 96 SO

Pirates:Maholm continued his solid work in his last start against San Diego on July 27. He hurled seven innings and gave up one run on four hits. He recorded nine strikeouts and received a no-decision. Maholm has gone 5-1 in his last 11 starts. He has worked at least six innings in each of his last 15 outings.

Looks as if  Nate Mclouth,Jose Bautista and Luis Rivas have done well against the southpaw lilly this year so expect them to try and spark the Pirate offense.

According to the stats above in the only outing for Paul Maholm this year against the Cubs they knocked him around pretty good so the Cubs should match up well against Maholm,Should be what the Cubs need to get back to hitting again after yesterdays display?
