The Cubs’ starting pitchers continue to one-up each other. Carlos Zambrano is next in line for today’s series finale.
Chicago starters have tossed six quality starts in a row, starting with Ted Lilly in the series opener against Milwaukee on Monday. Zambrano, the staff ace, looks to make it a week’s worth of strong outings in today’s finale against Pittsburgh.
Well it’s worth saying the Cubs offense came back to life, not as much as what they are capable of but none the less we will take it after being shutout the first game of the series, one hitter Ive noticed in the Cubs lineup that is not “breaking out”or to put it simple, not hitting, I’m talking about D.Lee. He has just been awful since the All-Star break, according to baseballreference.com D.Lee has had eight hitless games since the break. He is a main guy in this Cub lineup and like Aramis Ramirez and Alfonso Soriano, he can carry a team on his shoulders when he gets hot, but D.Lee still takes his walks and brings that gold glove so even though he is not “on fire” at the plate he is still doing a decent job.
Looking ahead to today’s game:
Carlos Zambrano
- #38 RHP
- (12-4) 2.80 ERA 96 SO
Cubs: Zambrano struck out a season-high nine batters in a win over the Brewers in his last start. Big Z threw eight scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks. He also hit an RBI single. Zambrano now is batting .349 — and ranks among the NL leaders with a 2.80 ERA. He is 1-0 in two starts against the Pirates this year, facing them in back-to-back starts in late May. He went 4-1 in July, giving up seven runs over 35 1/3 innings.
Ian Snell
- #45 RHP
- (4-8) 6.04 ERA 90 SO
Pirates: Snell had arguably his best outing of 2008 against the Rockies at PNC Park his last time out. He struck out eight and walked only one on his way to a quality seven-inning performance. Manager John Russell said he hoped the start is a turning point for Snell. The right-hander hadn’t won a game since June 11. Snell is 1-5 with a 5.26 ERA against the Cubs in his career.

Has not faced: Henry Blanco, Ronny Cedeno, Jim Edmonds, Mike Fontenot, and Alfonso Soriano & Has not faced pitchers: Neal Cotts, Ryan Dempster, Scott Eyre, Chad Gaudin, Rich Harden, Bobby Howry, Ted Lilly, Carlos Marmol, Jason Marquis, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija, and Carlos Zambrano
Ian snell has not faced the red hot Jim Edmonds this year but in his career against snell he has had 17 at bats against snell, out of his 17 at at bats he only has four hits but two of the four have been homeruns,so he might remain hot and crack a HR against snell today if he is in the lineup, another player who snell has not faced this year is Alfonso Soriano but in Soriano’s career against Snell he has lit him up in limited at bats against him going 6-12 with 3 homeruns and 5 RBI’s so look for him to remain hot and spark the Cubs offense today.
Another game that on paper with are Ace going would suggest a blowout, but as we saw in game one of this series, its anybody’s game for the taking,Carlos Zambrano will look to improve to 13-4 and continue his Cy Young like year.

oh i will be a tomorrow nights game and i might take off work and go to wed day game, then off course a few at the cub-card series on the weekend, not sure how many yet, gonna try and get wisdomcube some tix to at least one game to the cub-card series this upcoming weekend.
my late p to click is edmonds and im gonna say he hits the game winning run with a hr
just as i said that edmonds just hit a double,ye hah
soriano let a run score in the fist inning by misplaying a ball…got the tv on low…cant tell you if it was an error or not
big z gave up a HR
but i like where this inning is going…back to back doubles 3-2 good guys
wow…three straight dubs!
wo…that was a ball….but still D Lee had plenty of chances there to get a hit when it mattered most…
can count on Rammy
yup rammy is hot, always good for 30 plus homers and over 100 rbi’s
WTF????why he coming out so early??
somin is gotta be up,injury???god i hope not!!!!
i turned it up…did they say anything?
ok…theyre saying just to shorten him up
gotta love samrdzija….and wtf is that chick doing soduko for? I can see in between innings but…maybe she doesnt give a shit about pirates ABs….nice snag Rosa!
i dunno wtf she was/is doing soduko for?
yeah i dropped joel zumaya froma few of my espn fantasy teams and replaced him with samrdzija
what is your schedule like over the next few days? I am going to be in Salt Lake City
uhhhh………i work but im not working long hours, usally 8 hour days now, things are slowing down for me at work which is great, for awhile i was working 16 hour days for about a month or so!!what are you going to salt lake city for??
i just purchased a home automayion dealership…have to go for training
cubs games are during the day so…ill be in and out during games
you want me to handle things here till you get back
only thing is,doing recaps might be a prob,i will have to do em while trying to work and be in and out of the truck so i will miss some stuff, but i can handle it if need be,not really a huge issue
wow…youve gotta be fucking kidding me…why put cotts in to begin with….and then a 3-2 slider up?
gaudin = godamn
DAMMITT!!!!!SURE THAT AINT HOWRY IN THERE,dqamn,damn,damn..tie game!
go-dan,means godamn your right.
well, when i didnt wanna do full recaps i just did this
or this
all three runs with two out….for the pirates…thats very cublike
ok that shouldnt be a problem at all.(recaps)
was my preview ok today,i mean the stats from baseballreference, did it turn out right or did you have to edit it??
had to edit it….cut and paste from the top down….not bottom up…thats what “effs” it up
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
GO REED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a fucking stud this guy has been all year
that is how i do it,so what else am i doing wrong???you might need to walk me through it again then over the phone after the game or when you get time??
FONZIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
little braun like though out of the box…but he was running hard….cant fault him for the “go ahead” not tie
and sorian-oh my
good day to be a cubs fan!
yeah reed has really been somin else, what a great pickup, and he was cut from the jays, dumbasses!!well not really cause its great for us.
ill do it tomorrow night…ill be in a hotel room in SLC tomorrow night…youre doing it all fine
wow thrree runs w 2 outs…see my previous post…very cub like!
between him and edmonds….
sori has some braunn like moments at times, remember when he moonwalked backwards after hitting a hr of chris young of the padres last year??
yeah…but braun is second year…i guess, i am being a homer but – like i said u dont curtain call after a game tying HR
whats odd is when i finished the preview for todays game,i saved it then went back and hit preview post and it looked just like it does now??like i said when u can call me and walk me through it again, then i will do a test one and you can see if it comes out ok.
we gonna hear it?
yeah that was dumb curtain call.
go cubs go
the only diference i ahve seen, because i have done it backwards too…just cut and paste starting at the top of the stats instead of at the bottom up…you are doing fine….what kind of feed back did you get at cubbie bear nad at the game?
ok lets listen in for a minute!
i invited like 8 espn guys…no one showed…wierd
back up to FIVE games
yup 5 alive!!!
allright…ill recap…or do you wanna parlay the excitement?
have at it!!
remember we gotta figure out why my stats are coming up all goofy,no biggie just when u get the time gimmie a call or whatever.
and in a side note…the white sox are OUT of first place
all right…im out…ill get the recap…and try to call you in a bit
huh.didnt even know that, griffey must be doing well, hahaha
cool call me in a bit
