Series Streak On the Line

August 24, 2008

I hate that headline…should I change it? Did I just jinx the Cubs? The Cubs are going for their eighth straight series win today as they take on Washington at Wrigley Field.

I don’t want to do a full preview that includes pitching matchups. Why? Becuase Jason Bergmann…Who? (Seriously Who?) goes for the Nationals today. He of a 2-9 record and a 4.50 ERA. He is facing Rich Harden. You know, the Rich “This Could be a No Hitter” Harden.

Seriously, did I just jinx the Cubs?

I hate to ever look past any games but from time to time you are going to see me mail in a preview…usually on a Sunday too…It’s usually my golf day – but I am tired for a different reason…

BozeCubbies is back and will be at the game today, and we will be trying to do a live chat under this thread and not under the live game chat page.

By the way, I am not trying to really jinx the Cubs…because we know jinxes and curses don’t exist. If they did  – the Red Sox and the White Sox would still be pining for a World Series ring along with us. I just dont feel like doing all of the work because I stayed up on the west coast to watch USA Basketball  win the Gold Medal last night….I am whipped…I just wanna enjoy the game like the rest of you. See you here in a couple of hours.

Cubs Return Beatdown Favor to Nationals

August 23, 2008

Aramis Ramirez hit two three run homeruns to power the Cubs past the Washington today. One day after the Nationals pounded Cubs pitching to the tune of 13 runs, it was the Northsiders who did the pounding.  The 9-2 victory could have been much worse as through the first three innings the Cubs left the bases loaded twice and two on in the first.

Ryan Dempster notched his 15th victory of the year, which is a career high…but it was Dempsters candid comments of the shot to win 20 games this year that is endearing him to the Wrigley faithful…

“I don’t know. I’m not worried about that. It’s a great personal accomplishment, but my motivation is one reason and one reason only and that’s to get to the playoffs and win the World Series,” Dempster said. “I will take 15 wins and a World Series and I’d be the happiest player in baseball.” (ESPN)

Dempster is on a Cy Young pace and would be at the top of the discussion if not for Brandon Webb of Arizona having a monster year.

You know where to go to get the professional recap…I am going to say what matters most. The Cubs will go for their EIGHTH straight series win tomorrow. If they can win series for the rest of the year and not get too upset about dropping a game or two, then the pressure is on everyone else.

Nationals @ Cubs Game Two Thread

August 23, 2008

A party on Friday + an Early Saturday Game + We aren’t a Professional News Organization = No Preview

Funny shit here from The Wisdom Cube form yeterday’s Troll Call…In the mean time Ryan Dempster is on the bump today for the Cubs…We wont have to see Marquis until next week…that’s always a good thing…

Chat here during the game if you would like…but I gotta be honest, I am beginning to wonder if Cubs fans are massochistic and like the Trolls…..any thoughts?

Rain Delay the Start of Nats v. Cubs

August 22, 2008

The Washington Nationas come to town today…and the game is in a rain delay. This is good for me, becuase as a one man show, it gets me the extra time to tell you about the match ups.

The Nationals are the worst team in MLB….and had it not been for awful Philadelphia Phillies fielding last night, they would be coming in on a 13 game losing streak.

So it is Jason Marquis on the mound today for the Cubs pitching against John Lannan for the Nats.

Reed Johnson gets the nod over Jimmy Edmonds in center…we never seem to see enough of Johnson. We at 100yi think it should be Fukudome sitting, not Edmonds….But hey, we arent’t Lou Piniella.

Recap later.
